Change is here to stay.
Greek philosopher, Heraclitus once said, "There is nothing permanent except change."
We may not like change, but it isn't going away. So, how do we handle it when it comes our way?
Here are three ways:
Notice and add to emerging possibilities - The temptation when experiencing change is to dig our metaphorical heels in determined not to change. Another option is to stay open to and notice the new possibilities emerging within the change that we believe can help co-create a positive outcome. In other words, we move from being a victim of change to being empowered to make the change a positive thing for us and for those we love.
Be willing to change internally - Maya Angelou said, "If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude." She's right. Sometimes the change needed within the change we're experiencing is inside us. The question is, what attitude will best serve the change being experienced?
Stay connected and self-confident - Sometimes the change(s) we face leave us anxious. After all, when change happens, the future we felt certain about in one moment, becomes unknown. Staying connected and self-confident is the recognition that regardless of what comes because of the change, we have the ability to respond thoughtfully, figure things out, and there are others to help as needed.
The bottom line is this, change is inevitable and you have the ability to choose your response. Choose wisely.
Remember, I'm pulling for you. We're in this together!
